Mac OS X

It has now been over a year since Mac OS X was released and it is more fantastic now then ever!

What more could anyone want: the beauty of the MacOS, the power of the UNIX command-line and developer tools galore. Plus, all the commerical software that you use: Office, Photoshop, Quicken. It is indeed the perfect system.

The operating system appeals to at least two major facets of the computer markets. One, it provides the same creative feel, ease-of-use and simplicity the MacOS has always provided, appealing to the artists and content creators. And now by providing UNIX development tools, it appeals to the geeks who have fallen in love with Linux. Almost all open source software available to Linux can be compiled on OS X. The only question is will the new OS appeal to the business-corporate types, but since I don't fall nicely into that category I don't really care.

I now have one computer which allows me to run Apache, PHP and MySQL right along side Photoshop, Office and iTunes. I can now awk, sed and grep on the command line on the same machine I do my taxes on. It is truly a coup combining the two sytems, UNIX and Mac, into one uber-OS.

Kudos and many thanks Apple!
